How Family App works

Signing in

Family App uses passwordless sign-in. Enter your email address and we'll send you a short one-time code — type it in and you're in. There's no password to create or remember.

• First time here? Choose Create an account on the sign-in screen, then enter your email.
• The code lands in your inbox in a few seconds. Didn't see it? Check spam, or tap Resend code.
• Prefer a password? Tap Use password instead on the sign-in screen.

Families & invite codes

A family is your shared space. Everyone in the same family sees the same recipes, meal plans, shopping list, notes, and to-dos. The first time you sign in, you'll choose one of two paths:

• Create a new family Coming soon — start a fresh, empty space and become its owner. Give it a name (you can change it later). This is on the way; for now, join an existing family with an invite code.
• Join with an invite code — already have someone in the family? Enter their invite code to join their space.

Inviting people

Open Profile to find your family's invite code. Tap Copy and share it however you like (message, email, written on the fridge). The person you invite signs up, chooses Join with an invite code, and pastes it in.

Recipes

Keep your whole collection in one place, shared with the family.

• Add by hand — tap the add button on the Recipes screen and fill in ingredients, steps, tags, and a photo.
• Import from a link — paste a recipe's web address and Family App reads the page and fills in the details for you. If a site won't load, paste the recipe text instead and it'll still extract everything.
• Rate & tag — give recipes a star rating and tags so they're easy to find later.
• Inspiration — save links to your favourite recipe websites under Inspiration for when you need ideas.

Meal plans & shopping

This is where Family App saves you the most time each week.

1. Open Meal Plans and create a plan for a date range.
2. Add recipes from your collection to the plan.
3. Generate a shopping list from the plan — every ingredient is added to your shared list automatically.
4. Out shopping? Open Shopping List and tap each item's checkbox to mark it bought. The list is shared, so whoever's at the shop sees it update live.

You can also add one-off items to the shopping list by hand, any time — you don't need a plan to use it.

Notes & to-dos

Notes and To-dos are shared across the whole family. Notes are great for anything you'd stick on the fridge; to-dos are a simple shared checklist. Everyone can add, edit, and tick things off.

Install on your phone

Family App is a web app you can install to your home screen — it opens full-screen like any other app, and works offline.

iPhone & iPad (Safari)

1. Open the app in Safari.
2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
3. Choose Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Android (Chrome)

1. Open the app in Chrome.
2. Tap the ⋮ menu.
3. Choose Install app (or Add to Home screen).

Notifications

Family App can send a gentle weekly reminder to plan your meals. Turn it on under Profile → Notifications. You can send yourself a test notification there to make sure it's working. If notifications are blocked, you'll need to re-enable them in your browser or phone settings.

Troubleshooting

My code never arrived

Check your spam folder, make sure the email address is correct, and tap Resend code. Codes expire after a while, so request a fresh one if it's been sitting a few minutes.

I signed in but everything is empty

You're signed in but not in a family yet. Join an existing one with its invite code and your shared content appears. (Creating a brand-new family is coming soon.)

I want to switch families

Open Profile and Leave family. You can then join another with a different invite code. (Creating a new family of your own is coming soon.)
